Roller Derby and Life…Is There a Difference?
Made my first trip to see the Naptown Roller Derby compete at the Indiana State Fairgrounds over the weekend. Promised my parents the experience of a life time and delivered the kind of excitement many only dream about.
I recall the Saturday morning TV bouts from growing up & this was sooooo much better. The crowd was fun and the announcers were interacting with the crowd non-stop during the action.
The “Jammers” would break through the “Blockers” and pass opponents for points. Our Naptown Rollers totally dominated Team United from Iowa. Much like life, bumps and bruises were received by all in the process.
Although we laughed & had a great time, I couldn’t help but think this is an illustration of daily lives. We face challenges. We get beat up. We overcome.
Without establishing the help of others, it’s tough to reach our goals. It’s brutal when we try to take them on alone. But if we develop relationships and surround ourselves with the right people, amazing things happen and we break away from the pack.
When’s the last time you did something completely different and learned a little something in the process?
